Well Dweller Rusted Compass: Find Collectibles in a Room

Rusted Compass costs 5 trinket slots and signals when a collectible is in the room. It is a 100% cleanup tool: it tells you that you are standing in a room with something left in it, not where that thing is.

What Rusted Compass does

There are no upgrade tiers, so there is no currency decision here - the only decision is whether 5 slots are worth spending on a detection tool.

Where to get Rusted Compass

Region: Burial Vault, the dark-brown area at the top of its north-east section, where Burial Vault meets The Drains.

Abilities needed: Endless Climb, so this is a mid-to-late pickup rather than an early one.

Route (Gamer Guides' description): make your way up to the top of the north-east section of the Burial Vault, towards The Drains. The trinket is at the top, where the two areas meet.

What Rusted Compass does not do

This is the part that decides whether the trinket earns its slots:

• It does not reveal untouched rooms. It fires when you are in a room with something left, so a room you have never entered gives you nothing until you walk into it.
• It does not point. You still search the room; the trinket only tells you the search is worth doing.
• It does not distinguish collectible types. A missing page, spirit, slot and trinket all read the same way.
• It is not Glass Eye. Glass Eye (4 slots) reveals hidden passages, which is how some collectibles are gated in the first place. The two are complementary, not competing: Glass Eye finds the route, Rusted Compass tells you the room still owes you something.

How Rusted Compass fits a 100% run

The game already has two built-in tracking systems, and Rusted Compass sits between them:

1. The map marks rooms you have visited, so you can see where you have and have not been.
2. Late-game map markers can be bought in the tent and reveal uncollected objects - but only in rooms you have already entered, and the marker prices drop sharply once you have The Queen's Coin.

Against that, Rusted Compass costs 5 slots but no currency, and works while you are still moving through an area instead of after the fact. If you are chasing 100%, the counter-level detail is on Well Dweller 100% checklist and missing items, and the item sources are on Well Dweller quest items: feathers, elevator parts, pages.

Practical use: equip it when you enter a new region, clear the region, then unequip it. Because Well Dweller has no point of no return and you keep full map access after the final boss, the sweep can also be done at the end of the run - it costs time rather than permanently missed items.
