Well Dweller shipped on September 22, 2026 and received its first patch on September 26, 2026. This page lists what has changed, in the developer's own words, and keeps a running note of what is still open.
We re-check the sources below on a weekly basis. If a patch appears that is not listed here, it is because it has not been published yet - not because we skipped it.
September 26, 2026 - the first Well Dweller patch
Posted by Kyle Thompson in the Steam community hub under "THANK YOU for the amazing launch! The first update is here!". There is no version number attached to this patch, which is why the entry is dated rather than numbered.
The full list of changes, with the player-facing consequence of each:
| Patch note | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Prevented a possible save corruption if you pause on the same frame you save | The documented save-loss bug is fixed. Recovery steps for saves already lost: save corruption fix |
| Fixed a bug where your save tent displays wrong if you beat the drain boss but do not rescue the frogs | The "frog merchant disappeared" report was a real display bug, not lost progress |
| Allows you to rebind to Alt | Alt is now a valid binding. This is not a statement that the Switch menu-remapping problem is fixed |
| Fixed a bug where the camera doesn't follow the player in certain time trials if the camera zoom setting is too wide | The reported 0.7-zoom time trial malfunction now has a listed fix |
| Taking screenshots with F12 should now be working, as should recording videos on Steam | Steam screenshot and capture are fixed on PC |
| Fixed a couple out of bounds spots | You can no longer leave the intended play area in those rooms |
| Fixed a spot where you could get stuck in a wall in The Docks | The Docks wall-trap report is closed |
| Fixed the Looter's Shop Achievement from only triggering when buying trinkets | The shop achievement should now also trigger on other shop purchases, such as trinket slots |
| Slightly altered the wall jump allowances | Movement changed for everyone, most visibly in wall-jump time trials |
| Other misc small bug fixes and changes | Undocumented by design - do not read silence as "nothing else changed" |
The two changes that touch guides
Wall jump allowances were altered. Any route that leans on wall jumps - the time trial courses especially - was tuned in this patch. Times and routes published before September 26 were recorded on the old movement values. We have not seen a published target time change as a result, but treat exact-frame advice with suspicion either way.
Camera behaviour in time trials changed. If you read a guide that tells you to fix the map zoom before a trial, that advice is a pre-patch workaround. It is still harmless, but it should no longer be necessary.
Well Dweller version numbers
Steam does not expose a human-readable version number for this game, and the September 26 patch does not carry one. What exists:
- Steam (PC): the September 26 patch, dated only. SteamDB's patch history for the app is the practical way to see that a build changed.
- Switch: a build labelled 1.0.2 is listed by third-party eShop trackers. No changelog accompanies it, so we cannot say whether it contains the September 26 fixes or predates them. Treat the number as unverified.
Not confirmed on this site: whether the Switch 1.0.2 build is the same content as the September 26 Steam patch. Anyone comparing the two directly would settle it.
Still open after the first Well Dweller patch
These were reported at launch and are not covered by the September 26 notes:
| Issue | Status after September 26 | Detail |
|---|---|---|
| Switch / Switch 2 remapping also breaking menu navigation | Unverified - the patch only added Alt as a rebindable key | Switch issues, controls and patches |
| Time trial camera malfunction at 0.7 map zoom | Fix listed, not yet confirmed by players | All 10 time trials |
| Frame rate complaints, including a Steam Deck slow-motion report | No patch note addresses performance | Switch issues, controls and patches |
| New Game Plus | Developer asked about NG+ on September 25 and did not answer; no player has reported NG+ content | Endings and post-game |
| Boss Rush structure and rewards | Switch 2 exclusive at launch; the internal rules are still not public | Endings and post-game |
The developer's September 26 post closes with a note that the items fixed here were the most important changes, and that another patch with less urgent changes is coming. Nothing has shipped since.
How these Well Dweller patch notes are kept current
- Source of record: the Steam news feed for app 3699590, which carries both community announcements and patch posts. We read it directly rather than relying on third-party patch aggregators.
- Build changes without notes: SteamDB patch history. A record update there is not a named patch, so we do not log one until the developer posts notes.
- Review cadence: weekly while the game is in its first month, then monthly.
Well Dweller patch notes FAQ
Do Well Dweller updates have version numbers?
Not on Steam. The September 26, 2026 update is dated but unnumbered, which is why these patch notes are organised by date. A Switch build labelled 1.0.2 appears in third-party eShop listings with no changelog attached, so we do not treat it as a confirmed version.
Is another Well Dweller patch coming?
The developer's September 26 post says the changes in that patch were the most urgent ones and that another update with less urgent changes is coming. Nothing has shipped since, so the second patch is announced but not dated.
Where do Well Dweller patch notes come from?
These notes quote the developer's own Steam posts rather than a third-party changelog site, and the feed is re-read weekly while the game is new. Build changes that carry no notes - the kind SteamDB records - are not logged as patches.
