Well Dweller has one story ending and a post-game route that works like a second one. The credits do not reset your save, and almost everything completion-related is easier afterwards, because the route hands over Soar.
This page covers both: the Queen sequence and the Golden Feather gate in front of it, the post-credits objective with its five Spirit Fragments, and Boss Rush - which exists, but not on every platform.
Well Dweller endings and the post-credits route
Well Dweller does not end when the credits roll, and it does not ask you to start over. The credits unlock a second objective on the same save file, and that objective is what the completion achievements are actually pointing at.
The two endings
| Ending | How you reach it | What closes it out |
|---|---|---|
| Queen sequence | Collect 7/7 Golden Feathers, enter Queen's Castle, evade the Queen's chase, fight her | Hide and Seek, The End |
| True ending route | Load the same save after the credits, follow the Soar route, then clear five Spirit Fragment objectives | Together at Last (Reunite the Flock) |
Well Dweller has one story ending, plus post-game content that functions as a second one. Reviewers put it exactly that way: finish the Queen, watch the credits, and the route that opens on the same save acts as the second ending. The achievement split matches - the Queen sequence carries Hide and Seek and The End, while the flock reunion is a separate 82-G unlock that exists only after the credits.
The post-credits sequence, step by step
- Finish the Queen. The credits roll, and the game returns you to the same save rather than resetting progress.
- Look inside Queen's Castle again. Speak with Lutter, who points out a sealed room with a lever above it. Reach the upper lever to open that route: it contains The Queen's Coin, which discounts everything in your save tents, and it is the same route that leads onward to Soar.
- Read the map markers. A map then marks five hidden locations across the kingdom, each tied to a Spirit Fragment. These are separate from the 20 ordinary Spirits that count toward Full Flock.
- Clear all five marked objectives. There is no partial reward for 4/5.
- Return to Night Garden. This triggers Reunite the Flock, the true ending objective, worth 82 Gamerscore.
After the credits: no new game, a lot of clean-up
- There is no point of no return. The post-credits route continues on the same save, nothing is locked out by rolling credits, and completion tasks can be finished at any time.
- Boss Rush exists. Nintendo's official listing names Boss Rush Mode among the Switch 2 enhancements, and the Windows build's own help text says it lets you replay bosses you have already defeated. Its unlock trigger, structure, tiers and rewards are still undocumented - see Well Dweller Boss Rush: what is confirmed and what is unknown.
- New Game Plus is not documented. No NG+ mode, unlock or carry-over rules have been confirmed by a release-build source, so treat the question as open rather than settled either way.
- Time trials are the post-game content that matters most for completion. Ten of them, entered from large bird statues, each opening a door in the same room that holds a Trinket, Trinket Slot, Spirit or Workshop Token. The full list is on Well Dweller time trials: all 10 locations and rewards.
- The five Spirit Fragments are the forest witch's spirit. The pickup screen says it outright - "You have found a fragment of the forest witch's spirit. You have 4 more to find." - and clearing all five completes the post-credits objective.
- Difficulty and assist options exist in the settings, including healing assistance, time-trial allowances and a speedrun mode - useful if you want the true ending route without a second full run.
What you do not need for either ending
Trinkets, Trinket Slots, Spirits, story pages and upgrades are not required to finish the Queen sequence or the true ending route. They exist for the completion achievements, tracked on Well Dweller 100% checklist and missing collectibles.
If your gate refuses to open before the Queen, that is a Golden Feather problem, not an ending problem - see Well Dweller Golden Feathers: all 7 sources.
Boss Rush: what is confirmed and what is unknown
Boss Rush is the one post-game mode in Well Dweller with an official confirmation behind it - and also the one where almost everything else is missing. This page separates the two instead of repeating speculation.
What is confirmed
- Boss Rush Mode exists. Nintendo's official Switch product page lists Boss Rush Mode among the Switch 2 enhancements for Well Dweller, alongside higher resolution, enhanced rendering and enhanced FPS.
- It lets you replay bosses you have already beaten. The Windows build's own help text says the mode allows Refight/Rush against previously defeated bosses.
- The feature is not Switch-2-only in the data. Boss Rush help text is present in the Windows build, so the functionality is compiled into the PC game as well.
What is not documented
| Question | Status |
|---|---|
| Exact unlock trigger (credits, all bosses, a castle door, another flag) | Not documented - a review describes it as unlocking at or after the end of the game, which is not specific enough to publish as a condition |
| Continuous gauntlet or boss-select refight | The only rules text says replay any previously beaten boss, which reads as a refight list rather than a gauntlet |
| Tiers, timers or a ranked structure | No source establishes any |
| Healing and loadout rules between fights | Not documented |
| Rewards | Not documented - no currency, trinket, cosmetic or achievement is confirmed |
| A Boss Rush achievement | The 41-achievement list contains none, which stands out because the developer's earlier games do have Boss Rush achievements |
Platform availability
| Platform | Status |
|---|---|
| Switch 2 | Where the mode lives at launch. Nintendo lists Boss Rush Mode among the Switch 2 enhancements, and a reviewer who reached 100% confirms it as a Switch 2 feature |
| Switch 1 | Not available at launch, per the same reviewer |
| PC / Steam | Not accessible at launch. The Windows build contains the help text, but the reviewer reports it as Switch 2-only and says the developer intended to add it elsewhere later. No PC player has posted access |
| PS5 | Not accessible at launch, per the same report |
| Xbox / Game Pass | Not accessible at launch, per the same report |
If you are playing on PC, PS5, Xbox or Switch 1, you are not missing a menu - the mode is not on your platform yet. That matches what players report: the mode exists, but it is Switch 2-only in the launch window.
That gap between "the text exists in the build" and "players can open it" is deliberate: packaged help text can exist for a mode a platform never exposes, and nobody has posted a PC screenshot of the menu.
Where it fits with the rest of the endgame
- Time trials are separate from Boss Rush: ten of them, entered from bird statues, each opening a door that holds a collectible. They are on Well Dweller time trials: all 10 locations and rewards.
- New Game Plus is not documented. No NG+ mode, unlock or carry-over rules have been confirmed. A player asked the developer directly on September 25 whether a hidden NG+ existed, and the thread contains no answer - so the honest state is "not documented" rather than "does not exist".
- Post-credits cleanup continues on the same save, and nothing is locked out after the credits. The sequence is on Well Dweller endings and the true ending route.

Still unpublished:
- Endings and the true ending route: Not yet checked on this site: whether the Queen sequence has more than one outcome depending on your Golden Feather count, and whether the assist settings change the post-credits route. Both need a release-build pass before we state them as fact.
- Boss Rush: Still missing: the mode's structure and whether PC players can open it.
