A Well Dweller run rarely stalls on skill. It stalls on a counter that is short by one item - almost always a time trial door or a collectible that sits behind a late movement ability. After the credits the game hands you the tools to find both: Soar, Hover, and an in-game collectible map that marks missed items in rooms you have already visited.
The completion checklist
| Counter | Total | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Achievements | 41 (1,000G) | PS5 adds a platinum: 42 trophies total |
| Trinkets | 32 | Expert Collector |
| Trinket Slots | 50 (achievement) | 99 purchasable from Looter at 250 each, plus world pickups; one gate asks for 80 |
| Spirits | 20 | Full Flock; four sit behind time trials |
| Story pages | 23 | 9 + 8 + 6 across three books - see Well Dweller story pages |
| Workshop Tokens | 27 | One is behind a time trial; upgrades consume one each |
| Time trials | 10 | Each opens a door holding a collectible - see Well Dweller time trials |
| Family rescues | Egbert, Magda, Thimble & Thistle | Three separate achievements |
| Spirit Fragments | 5 | The forest witch's spirit, from the post-credits route |
| Trinket upgrades | All maxed | Fully Stocked; 15 of the 32 trinkets are upgradeable |
The gates the game actually checks
Well Dweller tracks completion with explicit thresholds, which is why some counters matter more than their totals suggest:
- 32 Trinkets
- 80 Trinket Slots - which is why the 50-slot achievement being done does not mean you are finished buying slots
- All story pages
- 7 Golden Feathers for Queen's Castle
- 5 Spirit Fragments for the post-credits objective
- Three pairs of Ilda's siblings, then returning to Ilda
The game tracks it for you
The STATS tab (in the pause menu) shows a completion percentage alongside the counters that matter: spirits returned (20/20 when done), trinket slots owned, Workshop Tokens and currency - plus the ability list. Before you go searching the map, that screen tells you which counter is short.
First: finish the story, then clean up
There is no point of no return. Everything except the post-credits objectives can be finished after the Queen, and the post-credits route hands over the movement upgrades that make the rest fast.
- Finish the Queen sequence and let the credits roll.
- Load the same save and complete the new Queen's Castle route for Soar.
- Clear the five Spirit Fragment objectives, then return to Night Garden for Reunite the Flock.
- Sweep visited rooms with the collectible map, buying markers where needed.
- Clear the remaining time trials - their doors hold collectibles that nothing else opens.
- Finish trinket upgrades last, when currency and Workshop Tokens stop competing with shop purchases.
The full post-credits sequence is on Well Dweller endings and the true ending route.
Diagnosis: which counter is short
Time trial doors. This is the structural trap in Well Dweller: each trial opens a door in the same room holding a Trinket, Trinket Slot, Spirit or Workshop Token, and no other route opens those doors. Four Spirits, four Slots, a Workshop Token and the Fish Hook trinket sit behind trials. If a counter is short by one or two and you cannot find anything in the world, check the trial list before re-walking regions.
Spirits stuck in the late teens. Spirits are returned, not just collected - Full Flock counts deliveries. Four of the 20 are trial rewards, so check those first.
Missing Trinkets or Slots. Rusted Compass signals when a collectible is in the room and Glass Eye reveals hidden passages; with both equipped, a room that still reads empty means the item is behind a route or a trial door. Slot and effect details are in the Well Dweller trinket catalog.
Missing story pages. Work book by book, not region by region. The Dollmaker book's last page needs Wall Sling, so a 7/8 page count is usually an ability problem. The per-book breakdown is on Well Dweller story pages: all 23 pages in 3 books.
Fully Stocked still locked. This is an economy problem: currency plus one Workshop Token per upgrade, with second tiers priced above first tiers. The upgrade price table and the Queen's Coin discounts are on the trinket catalog.
Family rescue objectives
Glimmer's named rescues and Ilda's sibling pairs are separate threads, and the game counts them for you:
| Objective | Where | Unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Egbert | Graven Valley, at the execution event - collect him just after Lida the Terrible | Littlest Bird; afterwards the game says four family members remain |
| Magda | Dollmaker's House, at the end of the family sequence | In the Dollmaker's House; the rescue also brings the Wall Sling traversal upgrade |
| Thimble & Thistle | The Docks branch that goes underwater; later barriers need Torpedo | Double Trouble; afterwards the game says two remain |
| Ilda's three pairs | Late-game objective; individual locations are not documented in the sources we use | Returning all three pairs to Ilda opens the way toward the Queen's Chamber |
How the slot numbers work
Three different slot numbers circulate, and they describe three different things:
- 50 is the achievement threshold (Fifty Slots).
- 99 is how many slots Looter's shop stocks, at 250 currency each.
- 80 is a separate in-game gate.
So an unspent stack of slots is normal rather than a sign you missed something, and finishing Fifty Slots is not the same as having bought all the slots you will want.
