Well Dweller launched on September 22, 2026 with no published patch notes in its first four days, and the confirmed platform trouble is narrow: one real Switch control problem, one open time-trial bug, and several scares that turn out to be progression or by-design behaviour.
This page separates the three.
Confirmed: control remapping can break menus and trinket access
On Switch and Switch 2, remapping a gameplay button (for example jump from A to B) also changes menu navigation and confirm/back controls. The reported consequences:
- menus become confusing to navigate, including the confirmation needed to undo the remap,
- Trinket access can stop working, which looks like corrupted progression rather than a control issue.
The player who hit this at roughly 20% completion raised it with the developer and reported that remapped controls were the cause. The same reporter said the problem was not present on PS5.
What to do: if trinkets stopped responding or menus feel wrong after you changed bindings, reset the control mapping to default before anything else. Do not start a new save.
Confirmed: time trial bug at 0.7 map zoom
A player reports one time trial malfunctioning at 0.7 map zoom, then noted that other trials behaved similarly. No fix or developer response was present in the thread, so treat this as open.
Workaround to try: change the map zoom before starting or retrying the trial, and use the trial's replay option - time trials are replayable and keep a best time, so a failed attempt costs nothing.
Not a bug: the "missing" tent merchant after the elevator boss
The same Switch 2 player reported the frog merchant and artwork missing after the elevator boss, and assumed progression had broken. Two separate things were going on:
- the trinket problem was the remapping issue above, and
- the merchant and art simply needed a little more progress to animate in.
Continuing past that point corrected it. The merchant was never gone.
Not a bug: a closed 7/7 castle gate
There is no credible report of Queen's Castle staying shut at 7/7 Golden Feathers. The extracted in-game dialogue says the gatekeeper lowers the gate once seven Feathers are brought, and completed walkthroughs report exactly that. A gate that will not open at 5/7 or 6/7 is an unfinished Feather event, explained on Well Dweller castle gate won't open: 5/7 and 6/7 Feather checks.
Performance: players report different experiences
Frame rate is the one topic where accounts genuinely diverge, so both sides belong on the page:
- Reviewer side: Nintendo Everything played the Switch version through Switch 2 backwards compatibility and reported no notable frame-rate or visual-quality dips at default settings. The native Switch 2 build separately advertises enhanced FPS.
- Player side: Steam and Reddit threads include complaints that the release runs noticeably worse than the demo, including a Steam Deck report describing the game as effectively running in slow motion even after changing v-sync, quality settings and the 30 fps cap.
- How to read it: performance looks platform- and settings-dependent rather than a confirmed universal defect. If you hit it, the things players report trying are the 30 fps cap, v-sync and quality toggles, and - on Switch 2 - confirming the native upgrade patch actually installed.
Crashes and saves: no credible retail crash pattern was found, and no save-corruption issue is documented. Reports from modded Switch hardware are excluded on purpose, since they say nothing about the supported build.
Patch status
No numbered post-launch changelog is public as of September 26, 2026:
- A Switch build labelled 1.0.2 has been reported first-hand, but with no changelog, so we cannot say what it changes.
- SteamDB shows September 23 and 25 record updates for the app, but those can be metadata or package changes; without published notes they should not be read as named patches.
- Both launch issues above remain open / no fix verified: the Switch control remapping problem and the 0.7-zoom time trial bug.
- The developer said on September 23 that he wanted to be confident there would be no further patches before pursuing a physical Switch 2 release - which means more patches remain possible rather than that one shipped.

Still missing: whether the remapping bug is fixed in a patch, and a definitive statement on Switch crash reports. Both need a post-patch check.
